2009 MCIA Community Service Opportunities

 

Youth Open House(Feb 28)
The Youth open house, this year is scheduled for Feb 28th.  During the open house, all community and Youth activities will be discussed with our Youth members.

Mission Mart(March)
Help maintain the store. Sorting clothes, cleaning etc. at Mission Mart.

Community-Wide Cleanup (April)
MCIA participates with City of Bloomington and Town of Normal in a community-wide Cleanup effort in spring.

College Avenue Cleanup   (May 17, June 21, July 19, Aug 16)
MCIA has adopted College Avenue as part of Adopt-a-Highway Program run by Bloomington city.
MCIA volunteers conduct cleanup activity at College Avenue from Veterans Parkway to Airport Road

Back to School (June to August)
Participate in multi organization effort to provide backpacks and school supplies for kids who cannot afford them.
The Collection Drive is during June-July and Distribution of School supplies is in August.

Red Cross Blood Drive (May)
We hope to raise awareness and support for blood donation in Bloomington-Normal.

Diversity Fairs
MCIA supports volunteers who represent India at cultural /diversity fairs at local schools and other locations by loaning display material.
Volunteers are needed to participate in the fair and present Indian crafts/culture.

Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity helps qualified people build their home. No prior skills in construction needed.
Volunteers can sign up for helping out on 1 or more Saturdays during construction season.

Special Olympics (June)
State Olympics type event for intellectually handicapped individuals.
Volunteers help with managing the event – tasks include registration, keeping score, helping with athletic/game events etc.

Career Day (Fall)
This is a Youth event, where college and high school students answer questions from students who are about to enter high school or college. 

Summer Picnic with Big Brother Big Sister (Summer)
This is a Youth event, where some kids from Big Brother Big Sister organization are invited for a picnic with MCIA youths.
